Spencer Matthews has opened up about his upcoming mission to find the final resting place of his brother Michael.
The former Made in Chelsea star, 34, is preparing to embark on a 'gut-wrenching and emotional journey' and take on Mount Everest, over 20 years on from his late brother dying while descending the world’s highest peak in 1999.
Seasoned climber Michael was just 22-years-old when he passed away during his expedition but his body has never been recovered.
23 years on from Michael's tragic death, his brother Spencer is planning to film his quest to find Michael's body - with the reality TV star admitting he has been in therapy in order to come to terms with possibly coming 'face to face with my brother’s frozen body'.
Michael, who was also the brother of Pippa Middleton's husband James, died in a mountaineering accident hours after becoming the youngest Brit to conquer the world’s highest peak.
Earlier this year, Spencer discussed his brother's death as it was revealed he had been spending the last 18 months making a documentary about his sibling's final days with Disney Plus.
"I was aged ten and for a long while afterwards believed in a youthful way that I would see him again," the reality TV recalled in August.
"During recent years the question of whether or not Mike could be found and brought home to our family was often on my mind. I became uncomfortable with the thought of him being left up there, possibly in plain sight.
"So, 23 years after his death and with my family’s support and an experienced team led by @Nimsdai, I travelled to Nepal and trekked to Mount Everest to find my brother and bring him home."
Spencer, who is married to Vogue Williams, has since admitted the process required him to have therapy to cope with the possibility of being the one to discover his brother's body.
"It was important for me to get my head around the fact I might come face to face with my brother’s frozen body," the dad-of-two recently confessed on his Big Fish podcast.
"I knew it was going to be a gut-wrenching and emotional journey."
Celebrity adventurer Bear Grylls was the one to lead Spencer and a team in their bid to find Michael's body earlier this year.
Speaking at the Oxford Union earlier this month, he revealed: "We had a team of, like, 10 Nepalese guys and some other incredible Western climbers..."
He went on to add: "The story has not come out yet, so I am not going to talk too much about it
"But it was a really special moment for [Michael’s] family."
Discussing the expedition when announcing his upcoming documentary, Spencer poignantly said: "This has been the most meaningful and humbling experience of my own life and it is hoped the film will deliver my brave brother the decent legacy that he earned when so young."
