Just days later, another United Airlines Boeing jet experienced a frightening incident when a tire fell off moments after takeoff from San Francisco. The plane made an emergency landing in Los Angeles, with the tire causing damage to cars and a fence in a parking lot below.
Additionally, a separate United Airlines flight from Memphis slid off the runway after landing in Houston, resulting in the plane tilting in a grassy area. Again, no injuries were reported in this incident.
These incidents come in the wake of a criminal investigation launched by the Justice Department into Boeing's compliance with a previous settlement related to two deadly 737 Max crashes in 2018 and 2019. The investigation was triggered by an incident in January when a door blew out of a Boeing 737 Max on an Alaska Airlines flight.
