The Man Who Answered With Stillness
Paul Brunton came to Tiruvannamalai in the 1930s as a journalist, carrying skepticism and a list of questions he considered unanswerable. He sat in the hall at Ramana Maharshi's ashram, Sri Ramanasramam, and waited. Ramana looked at him. Brunton looked back. No words passed between them for a long time. When Brunton wrote about it later, he said something shifted in the room, or in him, that he could not attribute to anything said. He had received something from a man who had given him nothing he could quote.
