Families along the northern Gulf Coast have about two days to prepare for what forecasters say could be a significant hurricane. Tropical Storm Isaias was over the southern Gulf with 40 mph winds early Wednesday, and the National Hurricane Center expects it to become a hurricane by Thursday and approach the U.S. northern Gulf Coast on Friday.
For most households, preparation means water, food and fuel. For families caring for someone who relies on dialysis, home oxygen, insulin or other daily medicines, the timeline is tighter. Pharmacies and dialysis centers may close, roads can flood, and power can stay out for days after landfall.
