Nashik BJP president arrested, mayor booked over events sans police nod

NASHIK: Police on Sunday night arrested city BJP president Girish Palve and booked mayor Satish Kulkarni for organizing programmes, without taking police permission, for the foundation laying ceremonies of two big projects at Adgaon and Panchavati in the city.

Assistant commissioner of police Madhukar Gavit confirmed that the Panchavati police arrested Palve on Sunday night. He was later released on bail.

Gavit said Palve and Kulkarni were booked under sections 188 and 266 of the IPC and other sections under the Maharashtra Police Act.

Union minister of state for panchayati raj Kapil Patil had laid the foundation stones for a Rs 1,100-crore logistics park at Adgaon and the Rs 1,800 crore Namami Goda project.

The BJP had organised the programmes on Sunday, the last day of the five-year tenure of the present House in the Nashik Municipal Corporation. Kulkarni was officially mayor till Sunday night.

Cases were registered against Kulkarni at two police stations and against Palve at three police stations. Police also filed cases against five other BJP leaders, including state BJP spokesperson Laxman Savji.
