Most 'beautiful' 2022 baby names according to science confirmed

The most "beautiful" 2022 baby names according to science have been revealed.

New research by parenting website My1stYear investigated which baby names are among the most "beautiful", according to linguistic theory.

As reported by the Daily Record, Zayn and Sophia take the top spot for boys and girls respectively. Jesse and Charlie are second and third for the former, while Zoe and Rosie are second and third for the latter.

Working alongside Associate Professor at the University of Birmingham Dr Bodo Winter, My1stYears looked at which the 100 most popular 2022 baby names bring about the most positive emotions when said aloud.

Zayn is boy's name of Arabic origin meaning ‘beauty’ and 'grace'. It became popular in the UK following Zayn Malik of One Direction's rise to fame.

Sophia, on the other hand, has origins in Greece dating back to the fourth century and means 'wisdom'. It has become more popular in recent years thanks to icons such as Sofia Coppola and Sofia Vergara.

Meanwhile, Jesse has origins in both England and the Netherlands, and means ‘God’s gift’ or ‘King’. Zoe again has roots in Greece and means 'life'.

Head of Marketing at My1stYears Gareth Chadwick said: "Naming our newborns can sometimes feel incredibly overwhelming, particularly if you haven’t already got a shortlist by the time they’re born! Whether it’s choosing the right spelling, imagining what nicknames they’ll end up with or considering how it’ll sound when they’re older - there’s a lot to think about before signing that birth certificate.

"We’re passionate about names and personalisation and so we were really keen to find out if there’s any science behind which names truly are the most beautiful to the ear, and we were so grateful to work with Dr. Bodo Winter, in order to rank this year’s most popular baby names according to the hugely interesting linguistic theory of iconicity. Of course, it goes without saying that any of the names in our study can be applied to either gender, and all names are truly beautiful."
