A diet guru has explained to people what food groups they should be focusing on if they want to lose weight quickly.
Weight loss expert Michael Mosley, who is the creator of the 5:2 and Fast 800 diet's, has sworn by the advice he is giving out for shedding the pounds, reports the Daily Record. The diet creator has urged slimmer's to make sure they are consuming enough protein, like fish, meat and legumes.
Not only does it help people lose weight, but Michael also noted that upping your protein intake can help curb those sugary cravings, as well as building muscle that keeps weight off for a longer period of time. He also stated that foods should be protein-rich, as well as high in fibre and healthy fats.

If people are following this weight loss technique, then Michael recommends that they should be consuming 60 grams of protein daily. The presenter also claimed that those who eat less than the recommended amount of protein could be harming their metabolic rate.
Michael said: "Your body will cannibalise your muscles and your metabolic rate will go down. It's really important to have a decent amount of protein, which is 50-70g a day.
"You can mainly get protein from meat or from fish, and you can also get it from legumes, but you have to eat rather more."
Most people are aware that eating more protein is good for losing weight, as it helps reduce the cravings for unhealthy foods and "bad" carbohydrates. According to website Healthline, a diet filled with protein can help boost the metabolism, as well as lead to an automatic reduction in calorie intake.
This is because high-protein foods can suppress appetite, keeping people fuller for longer. Examples of protein-rich foods include:
- Eggs
- Almonds
- Chicken breast
- Lean beef
- Greek yoghurt
- Tofu
- Cottage cheese
- Lentils
- Spinach
- Fish
- Quinoa
Michael also noted: "The reason for protein is you need it for your muscle. We do have meal replacement shakes which are very rich in protein, and we’re also aiming to produce protein boosters, to help people who might otherwise struggle with it."
However, while protein can help people lose weight, it is also an important macronutrient for building muscle too. Michael added: "The reason for protein is you need it for your muscle. If you do a safe and effective rapid weight loss diet, two to three years down the road you'll keep most of that weight off."
