Manchester United are reportedly budgeting for a £100million outlay on a new midfielder next summer. According to reports, United are planning to invest that fee alone on a ‘world class’ midfielder. It is claimed a clutch of players feature on their shortlist including long-time target Frenkie de Jong.
The Barcelona man was courted all summer long by United but after a number of hiccups the deal fell through. It is now thought Erik ten Hag may look to resurrect a deal at the end of the current season as he looks to bring in a marquee signing.
De Jong features on a high-profile shortlist, that also includes Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes and West Ham’s Declan Rice.

Meanwhile, United are again being linked with Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries.
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti claims United have asked for information on Dumfries, with top-flight rivals Chelsea and Tottenham also said to be interested in signing the Netherlands international.
The 26-year-old is expected to play a starring role for his country at the World Cup later this month in Qatar. A series of impressive performances could inflate his price tag even further from its current reported value of £35million.
