Man’s death in north London treated as ‘unexpected and unexplained’

A man has been found dead on a wealthy residential street in North London in “unexpected and unexplained” circumstances, Metropolitan Police said.

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to Chandos Avenue in Whetstone, near Totteridge & Whetstone Underground station, about 6am on Monday following reports of an injured man.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, the Met said, and work is ongoing to confirm his identity and notify his next of kin.

“At this early stage the death is being treated as unexpected and unexplained.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances.”

A police cordon has been placed at the junction of Chandos Avenue and the high street, disrupting some commuters travelling to the Tube station.

Chandos Avenue remains closed between High Road and Oakleigh Park North.

Local residents report being “forced out” of Chandos Avenue while walking to work.

Whetstone councillor Liron Woodcock-Velleman tweeted: “Please use alternative routes for now and we hope the issue will be resolved safely and swiftly.”

Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD968/20Mar.
