Man on the run from jail with links to Greater Manchester - police say do not approach him

A inmate with links to Greater Manchester has gone on the run from prison. Police have warned the public not to approach Alfred Adams.

The prisoner failed to return to open prison, HMP Sudbury, in Derbyshire, after a period of temporary release. The 44-year-old is currently serving a 12-year sentence in relation to a series of attacks on cash machines.

He is described as around 5ft 7in tall, of medium build with brown hair and blue eyes. He also has a distinctive scar on his cheek and tattoos on his arms.

Police say he has links to Wigan in Greater Manchester, as well as Warrington, Stoke-on-Trent, Leicestershire, Newark and Essex. It's thought he might also have links to the travelling community.

Members of the public are being urged not to approach Alfred directly, but to contact Derbyshire Police immediately

In a statement, the force said: "Alfred Adams did not return after a period of temporary release from the open prison on Tuesday 13 December.

"The 44-year-old is currently serving a 12-year sentence for burglary, theft, and intent to steal in relation to a series of attacks on cash machines and was convicted at Leicestershire Crown Court in 2018.

"Adams is described as around 5ft 7in tall, of medium build with brown hair and blue eyes. He has a scar on his cheek and tattoos on his arms.

"He has links to the Wigan, Warrington, Stoke-on-Trent, Leicestershire, Newark and Essex, and it is believed he may also have links to the travelling community.

"Members of the public are asked not to approach Adams and instead contact Derbyshire police with reference quoting reference 7 of 14 December."
