Man missing since going to London for Queen's funeral as police 'increasingly concerned'

Police are becoming "increasingly concerned" for the welfare of a man who went missing after going to London for the Queen's funeral earlier this week.

Anthony travelled to the capital from Birmingham and has not been seen since, said the Metropolitan Police.

Lambeth Borough Police, a branch of the force, released a photo of Anthony on its Twitter page in an appeal to locate his whereabouts.

The tweet was posted this afternoon - five days after the funeral took place.

It read: "We are increasingly concerned for the welfare of Anthony who came to London from Birmingham for the funeral of The Queen and has not been seen since."

The post was also retweeted from the Met Police's main Twitter account.

There were around two million mourners who came out to see the Queen's coffin as it made its way to Westminster Abbey for the state funeral on Monday.

Met Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy described it as the "largest policing operation" in the force's history, saying "nothing could compare" with the "hugely complex" task.

The scale surpassed the operation for the Platinum Jubilee weekend and the London 2012 Olympics, which saw up to 10,000 police officers on duty per day.

There were more than 22 miles of barriers in central London alone to control crowds and keep key areas secure.

Anyone who has seen Anthony is urged to call 101 quoting the case reference number 1228029/22.
