Lakers forward Anthony Davis showed out in Game 1 of his team’s Western Conference semifinal series against the Warriors in the second round of the NBA playoffs last week, finishing with 30 points and 23 rebounds in 44 minutes of game time.
However, in Game 2, Davis was held to just 11 points and seven rebounds, a sharp contrast from just a couple days prior.
Despite that performance sparking a negative social media reaction, Davis told Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes that he doesn’t listen to the outside noise.
“Hell nah, I’m not on social media, and it’s been that way for about four months,” Davis said. “I don’t know what anybody is saying. Most times it’s just clickbait to draw ratings. I don’t give that s— any attention.”
Davis then launched an NSFW rant about how he doesn’t pay attention to what critics say on social media.
“I’ve got three kids and a wife I want to keep happy. I don’t need any other stress,” Davis continued. “You obviously want to compete at the highest level and perform to your best, but s---, it doesn’t go that way sometimes. I don’t know what was said, and I don’t care. I got 15 m-----f------ in this locker room and a coaching staff that I listen to. Outside of them, it’s my strong support system. They’re the only voices I let in.”
Even though Davis says he didn’t listen to the naysayers ahead of Saturday’s Game 3, he bounced back with 25 points and 13 rebounds in 33 minutes of the Lakers’ 127–97 win.
