Jurassic Lanark comes roaring back as popular dinosaur trail launches today

Dinosaurs have come roaring back to Lanarkshire as the return of Jurassic Lanark launches today.

The popular trail invites families to hunt down the ancient beasts once again as locals and visitors alike are guaranteed a close encounter of a very frightening kind.

Jurassic Lanark has revealed there is a ‘roarsome’ new pack of dinosaurs now roaming the town, with plenty new attractions this year.

Sponsored by family-owned company, Border Biscuits, the Jurassic Lanark summer trail will give families a free, fun day out for the second year running in Lanark from today, June 24 until Sunday, August 14.

To add even more excitement to the weekend, one lucky family will get the opportunity to take home a Border Biscuits bundle following their visit, once drawn in August.

While the treat-packed hamper is sure to satisfy any biscuit lover, Lanark town centre and New Lanark World Heritage Site will be alive with clawing, roaring, and breathing dinosaurs - all set to take over the area.

An additional four animatronic dinosaurs will roam the Clydesdale grounds this year, including a spectacular Spinosaurus, a vicious Allosaurus grappling with two fierce Raptors, and a beady-eyed Pterosaur protecting its hatching eggs.

Jurassic Lanark gives families and little dinosaur hunters the chance to go wild with their imaginations whilst they hunt down ancient predators – with 25 life-size dinosaurs to spot this year also including a roaring Tyrannosaurus Rex, two new baby puppet dinosaurs and a flying Pteranodons.

The trail has been set up as part of Discover Lanark, a BID (Business Improvement District) partnership to attract sustainable tourism and support local communities and businesses.

Last year the event attracted 25,000 trail participants providing a perfect opportunity to showcase the beauty of Lanark, located just up the hill from one of Scotland’s six UNESCO heritage sites.

John Cunningham, chief executive at Border Biscuits, said: “As a local business we’re committed to supporting the community, and by sponsoring this event, we can shine a spotlight on Lanark again this year.

"Last year’s event was a phenomenal success and we’re hoping this year will be even bigger and better. Visitors will be able to spot our volunteers along the trail, who will be handing out free biscuits to keep everyone’s energy up on the hunt.

"We are looking forward to giving one lucky family our Border Biscuits bundle, a sure-to-be sought after prize with selections from our delicious range.”

Jurassic Lanark runs from 10am to 5pm daily throughout the school holidays.

Trail maps and programmes will be available from Tolbooth Lanark in the town centre and New Lanark Mill Café and Gift Shop.

Visit the Discover Lanark website for more details.

To enter the competition, all families must do is finish the dinosaur trail on their chosen day and complete a quiz found in the leaflet – once this is posted into the dino draw box on site, one lucky family will be chosen by Border Biscuits on Thursday, August 18.
