Jesse Lingard sends heartfelt Nottingham Forest message after exit confirmed

Jesse Lingard has reflected on his “rollercoaster journey” at Nottingham Forest after his departure was confirmed.

The attacker will leave the Reds at the end of the month when his contract expires. It comes after he made the move to the City Ground as a free agent last summer.

Injuries hampered Lingard just when he had started to find form for Steve Cooper’s side. He made 20 appearances for the club and scored two goals.

Posting on Instagram, he wrote: “Thank you to everybody @officialnffc from the fans to all the back room staff and of course the players, been a rollercoaster journey but we stuck together through thick and thin and achieved our goal, it’s been a pleasure #demmander #fordes #wakawaka”

Lingard is one of six players to be released by Forest at the end of their deals. Jack Colback, Jordan Smith, Andre Ayew, Lyle Taylor and Cafu are also to depart, as confirmed by the club when their retained list was published last week.

Lingard is now on the lookout for a new club. He has previously been linked with Fenerbahce and Leicester City - although in the latter’s case that was before they fell through the relegation trapdoor.

What proved to be the 30-year-old’s final appearance for the Reds was as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat to former club Manchester United in April. He featured just six times after the season resumed following the World Cup break.

His two goals came in the Carabao Cup, against Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers. But although Lingard didn’t see too much game time, he remained a key figure in the dressing room throughout the campaign as Forest secured survival.
