How to mark an opponent with the Flare Gun for the weekly challenges in Fortnite

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 has a Valentine’s Day gift for you: a brand-new set of weekly challenges that net you valuable battle pass XP to unlock additional cosmetic items.

The entire set is worth 16,000 XP and you have until the end of the season to complete them all and collect your rewards – thankfully, Epic Games reverted its decision to delete ongoing quests after seven days.

So, what challenges does the Fortnite v23.40 update have in store?

Fortnite challenges: Mark an opponent with the Flare Gun (1)

The Flare Fun recently returned to the battle royale game mode and if you haven’t been using it, it’s about time to start. You can easily find them among common loot. When fired at an enemy, the Flare Gun sets them on fire – useful, but the name of the game for this weekly challenge. To complete this quest, fire the Flare Gun into the air. After the projectile has been in the air for long enough, it will mark everyone in a radius of 50 meters, letting you see them through walls.

Fortnite challenges: Hide in a haystack, leaf pile, and a giant snowball in a single match (3)

All three hiding places are pretty easy to find, and should be familiar to anyone who’s ever played an Assassin’s Creed game – though, disappointingly, Valhalla did not offer giant snowballs to hide in. You just have to move up to them and hit the button prompt to hide inside to complete the quest. You should, of course, be careful when approaching a hiding place, as someone might already be waiting for you, ready to pounce as you come near.

Fortnite challenges: Fall 3 stories or more into a big bush (1)

Yeah, it’s an Assassin’s Creed kind of week in Fortnite – ready for a leap of faith? You need to find a Bush Bomb, which can be found anywhere common loot can, throw it down near a tall building or cliff, and leap with accuracy. Landing in the bush will negate any fall damage and net you this quest completion.

Fortnite challenges: Damage opponents from 30 or more meters with a Rocket Launcher (1)

Who doesn’t love the Rocket Launcher? There is no easier way to sow chaos. Aside from the more traditional fire mode, you also use the scope for some more precise destruction. That’s what we recommend you do for this challenge, since that’ll make it easier to hit an enemy from the distance required to complete the mission.

Fortnite challenges: Open chests (4 stages)

Greed is good – at least in order to fulfill this challenge. Find and open as many chests as you can to work through the stages of this challenge. Honestly, you should do that anyways while playing the game, so this is a win-win for your victory chances. The first stage requires you to open three chests, and the amount grows exponentially with each following stage.

Fortnite challenges: Travel distance (4 stages)

The second challenge coming in different stages this week requires you to… walk. Yeah, you simply need to walk. 2,000 meters for the first stage of the challenge, more for each one after that. You’ll automatically do this as long as you play somewhat regularly, so no reason to sweat about it.
