Terrifying footage captures the moment a thrill ride hurtled out of control and crashed into the ground leaving dozens injured at a funfair.
Fifty people were reportedly left injured after the spinning fairground ride malfunctioned and plunged 80ft.
People can be heard screaming in the chilling clip, seconds before the ride crashed to the ground at the Dussehra fairground in Mohali, India on Sunday.
Several children are believed to be among those hurt as paramedics rushed the wounded to local hospitals following the horrific incident.
A video shared on social shows the ride lifting thrillseekers high into the air up an 80ft tower on a rotating platform, before a mechanical failure sends the screaming riders plummeting to the ground.
Those strapped into the attraction are visibly flung about, with one person's body forcefully swinging due to the impact as others are alleged to have come loose from their seats.
Aftermath footage shows panicked witnesses tending to those injured, including a woman looking after a child who is lying on the ground.
Victims received head and neck injuries and are said to be in a state of shock. The injured were reportedly admitted to hospital after being taken there by a nearby emergency vehicle, according to tribuneindia.com .
The publication also reported that staff and security personnel operating the ride fled the scene immediately after the accident took place, with members of the public giving chase.
A local police official has alleged that the organisers were "negligent", reporting that there were no ambulances at the fair.
Local media reports an outpouring of anger on social media towards the owners of the fairground, and witnesses to the accident have said that the necessary safety measures had not been implemented on the attraction.
An investigation is now underway. The head of the company which owns the fairground and rides has been contacted by authorities demanding an explanation.
“The injured have been rushed to the Civil hospital. We are investigating the matter and action will be taken soon”, said Mohali DC Amit Talwar.
The news follows another incident in which six-year-old boy sustained fatal head injuries after slipping out of a seat meant for adults on a 'twist' fairground.
As the ride started, Eugene slid out of his seat and ended up on the outside of the compartment, holding on for dear life, an inquest in Australia heard last week.
Little Eugene, who looked terrified as he clung on, eventually lost his grip and was launched from the compartment, striking his head on the ride and losing consciousness.
He was airlifted to hospital but despite medics' best efforts, he couldn't be saved and his life support was turned off on April 21, 2017.
