Giants ‘would consider’ signing Odell Beckham Jr. when he’s healthy

The NFL trade deadline came and went on Tuesday and the New York Giants did not make a move to add anyone to their roster.

With a heavy need at wide receiver and a 6-2 record, some expected New York to be buyers at the deadline. And although Big Blue was tied to a number of available names at the position, nothing transpired after the Kadarius Toney deal.

But one storyline that just won’t go away is the potential reunion with Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham, 29, continues to recover from the ACL tear he suffered in the Super Bowl with the Rams.

As a free agent, his ties to the Giants are always going to make a headline. And with the team’s desperate need at wide receiver, rumors are likely to continue.

General manager Joe Schoen did little to rebuff them during his bye week press conference on Tuesday, saying he “would consider” signing Beckham once he’s healthy.

“Obviously, he’s been a good player. He’s a guy we would consider and talk to when he’s healthy. I think he did the ACL in February, so, not sure really where he is physically. Yeah, any player to upgrade the roster, we’re going to consider and have conversations with their representatives,” Schoen said.

“He’s a good player from when I evaluated him, if he’s healthy. If a player is healthy and they would help us win football games, we would pursue them if they fit what we’re looking for.”

The Giants entered the season with depth at the position. But after a season-ending injury sustained to Sterling Shepard and other injuries to Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney (prior to being traded), the Giants have been thin at the position for most season.

The Giants’ tight cap situation will likely make it difficult for them to sign Beckham.

A Beckham reunion certainly would have a large part of the fan base excited and OBJ has dropped several hints at his interest in a return to New York. A healthy Beckham could certainly make an impact on whatever team signs him, especially if it ends up being the Giants.
