This year’s prestigious Michelin guide has been unveiled, with a number of Irish restaurants named among the finest establishments for 2022.
The Michelin Great Britain & Ireland Guide includes restaurants that have retained their glory from last year, as well as new entries to the list.
22 Irish restaurants were awarded the middle honour of two Michelin Stars, with popular Irish names among them.
Aimsir in Celbridge, Co Kildare, and Patrick Guilbaud on Merrion Street Upper, Dublin retained their two stars from last year.
Jordan Bailey, Aimsir’s head chef, said they were "delighted" to have made the list again.
“It’s been a whirlwind 12 months for everyone in the industry but we’re over the moon that Michelin recognises that what we do here is always of extremely high quality, provenance and that we continue to deliver a consistent product," he said.
New additions to the two star category included Liath in Blackrock and Chapter One on Parnell Street, Dublin.
Mickael Viljanen, Chef Patron of Chapter One, told the Irish Mirror that receiving two stars is “truly humbling” and that he is “extremely proud of the entire team”.
Irish restaurants that retained their one Michelin star ranking included Aniar in Galway, Bastion in Kinsale, Campagne in Kilkenny, Chestnut in Ballydehob, dede in Baltimore and House in Ardmore.
Ichigo Ichie in Cork, Lady Helen in Thomastown, Loam in Galway, The Oak Room in Adare, Variety Jones in Dublin and Wild Honey Inn in Lisdoonvarna also kept their place in the guide.
Three Northern Irish restaurants retained one star, all of which were located in Belfast. Eipic, OX and the Muddlers Club were those named.
Glovers Alley on St Stephen’s Green, Dublin and Bastible on the South Circular Road, Dublin, were two Irish restaurants to be awarded one Michelin star this year.
Restaurant Manager for Bastible, Shane Lyons, said the team are “absolutely buzzing” to have made the list.
“We had a real momentum building year before Covid. We were making serious progress but then obviously it all came to a sudden pause,” he said.
“The last two years have been extremely tough but we now have come through that.
“To be here and to get this accolade and this affirmation, everyone - from the head chef right down to the last person on the team - everyone is just so proud.
“We’re all over the moon.”
Nearly 200 restaurants made this year's Michelin guide. Just eight of those were awarded the highest ranking of three stars, all of which are based in England.
