Psychology says people who color-code towels aren't obsessive, they may be trying to keep things organised

Walk into some homes, and you'll notice a simple rule: one towel is only for drying dishes, another is for wiping kitchen counters, another is reserved for the dining table, and a completely different one is used for dusting furniture. To some people, these distinctions seem unnecessary. To others, mixing them feels completely wrong.

Psychology says these habits are often shaped by a combination of personality, learning, hygiene beliefs, and mental organization. Keeping separate towels doesn't automatically mean someone is obsessive or overly particular. In many cases, it simply reflects a preference for structure, cleanliness, and reducing confusion in daily life.
