Another transfer window has rolled around for Manchester United and supporters will be hoping they have learned their lesson from last year.
Frenkie de Jong's potential transfer from Barcelona to Old Trafford dominated the rumour mill for months as the Reds were pushed from pillar to post. Eventually, the overwhelming response from the Catalan club was no and United were left scrambling for alternatives to bolster their midfield.
Adrien Rabiot was approached but talks fell when personal terms were discussed. Ultimately, Erik ten Hag moved for Real Madrid's Casemiro which was a wise signing.
The Brazilian strengthened a position which was weak and helped play a crucial role in United's return to the Champions League. Fresh reports from Spain now suggest De Jong could be back on the market.

Sport claims Barca would be willing to sell De Jong should an acceptable bid be submitted for his services. If true, this would be a direct contradiction to Xavi's comments about wishing for him to stay at Camp Nou.
However, it is not beyond the realms of believability the Barca boss has decided to change his mind again. De Jong's comments in March though are enough to suggest he is not a player Ten Hag should revisit.
"Last summer I was always calm as I knew I would stay at Barca and I never changed my mind," De Jong told RAC1 when asked about interest from United. "I always dreamed of playing for Barca and I want to succeed here. I want to continue here."
What should be beyond clear by now is the Dutchman has no intention of leaving Barcelona. Despite his fondness for Ten Hag, the player clearly wants to prove his worth at Camp Nou moving forwards.
His contract expires in 2026 and until then, any pursuit of De Jong will fall on deaf ears from the midfielder. United must stay clear of the former Ajax man and focus on other targets.
