FORMER Bay City Rollers guitarist Neil Henderson has died at the age of 73.
The news was announced by his ex-bandmates in Middle of the Road.
The statement, which was posted to Facebook by the group, revealed that the musician had been ill and was recovering from a stroke prior to his death.
It continued: "We are sorry to have to announce the death of Neil Henderson, our original lead guitarist, songwriter and friend.
"Neil had been ill for some time and was fighting to recover from a stroke a few years ago.
"We wish to send our sincere condolences to Heather and Shona, his two daughters, and all his family and friends.
"His memory will live on with all who had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him as will his music."
Neil was a member of the iconic Scots rock group, Bay City Rollers, from 1970 until 1972. The Glasgow-born star performed on their debut single Keep on Dancing.
He later went on to join Middle of the Road and wrote and co-wrote songs like Rockin' Soul and Everybody Loves a Winner and 1974 albums, You Pays Yer Money and You Takes Yer Chance and Postcard, all released in Germany via Ariola like their first German LP, Music Music.
The former tour driver of Middle of the Road said: "This is so sad. During the '73 Middle of the Road, West and East European tour, Neil was introduced as the fifth member of the Middle of the Road group. I was the groups tour driver & had some great chats with him."
A friend of Henderson said: "It was a pleasure to have known you, my friend, sleep well mate."
Henderson is survived by his two daughters.
