Foodies Festival to visit Glasgow for first time as two Scottish dates announced

The biggest touring gourmet food festival in the UK is coming to Scotland and it's added a second date this year with a first-time visit to Glasgow.

Dubbed the ‘Gastro-Glasto’, Foodies Festival will once again be returning to Edinburgh, with a trip to Glasgow's Rouken Glen Park thrown in for good measure this August. The festival features a star-studded line-up of MasterChef champions, TV chefs and personalities, Michelin starred chefs and headline music acts.

Names featuring at the exciting event include MasterChef: The Professionals 2021 champion Daniel Lee; MasterChef 2021 champion Tom Rhodes; top chef Liam Rogers, from two Michelin starred restaurant, Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles; and stars of MasterChef, Sarah Rankin and Laura Michael.

Comedian Tim Vine will also be taking to the stage in the Cake and Bake Theatre, whipping up some delicious desserts with a side order of humour, ahead of his comedy show ‘Breeeep!' at the Edinburgh Festival.

The Festival will arrive at Inverleith Park in the capital on August 5 and will run until the 7th before heading to Glasgow's Rouken Glen Park in Giffnock from the 12th to the 14th.

Scotland’s National Chef, Gary Maclean, chef-patron of Creel Caught in Edinburgh, will be joined by fellow Scottish chef Dean Banks of The Pompadour in Edinburgh and Haar in St Andrews.

Speaking about Foodies, Gary Mclean, said: "Being part of Foodies this year is going to be so much fun, getting out and getting face to face with the public again is going to be very special, I am also excited to see and meet and learn from the incredible line up of chefs who have kept us going throughout lockdowns. Getting in front of a Glasgow and Edinburgh audience is always a highlight. Can’t wait.”

Also on the menu will be Graeme Cheevers, chef-patron from Unalome, Glasgow, which received a Michelin star in the 2022 awards; Peter McKenna, chef-patron from Plate Michelin awarded The Gannet in Glasgow and Michelin-trained head chef Ronan Shaftoe from Glasgow’s Bar Brett.

And showcasing their finest dishes, multi award-winning chef-patron, Paul Wedgwood from Wedgewood the Restaurant, chef-patron and author Mark Greenaway from Grazing by Mark Greenaway at the Waldorf Astoria and Calum Montgomery, chef-patron of 3 AA Rosette awarded Edinbane Lodge in Skye.

The music line-ups include Brit Pop sensations Toploader, rising Scottish singer-songwriter Callum Beattie and up-coming Glasgow-based funk and soul powerhouse band Tom McGuire & the Brassholes.

The ‘Big Party Night’ will also take place on the Friday, which will take a nostalgia-filled trip back to the 90s, featuring, N-Trance, one of the biggest selling UK dance acts of the era and DJ’s spinning the top tracks.

N-Trance said: “Incredible food and festival vibes...we can’t wait! It’s brilliant to be performing in Edinburgh and Glasgow with the UK’s biggest touring food and drink festival. Bring your dancing shoes and let’s make it a big summer to remember!”

Across the weekends, the festival presents ’Top Tributes’ showcasing many of the best fringe tribute acts, with an array of exciting and diverse performances, including: The Magnets, ABBA, Dirtyn Harry, Elvis, Elton John and Adele.

What else to expect?

  • Guests can "Go Global" – and browse the very latest world food trends in the Shopping Village and try exotic and unusual new dishes on Street Food Avenue.
  • Ready Steady Chef! – Celebrity chefs from TV’s biggest cooking shows will once again compete against each other, turning up the heat in the Chefs’ Theatre. Presented with a bag of surprising ingredients chosen by their competitors, it will be an exciting and often hilarious race against the clock to create the best dish, and to win the public vote.
  • The Cook Book Shop – Meet the authors and discover new recipes, with celebrity signings and top chefs’ showcasing their latest cookbooks.

  • Masterclasses in the Drinks Theatre – including Cocktail Making, and Champagne, Beer, Cider and Wine tasting. Taste and compare some of the best products on the market.

  • Kids Cookery School – Keep the children entertained, with this fun school hosted by Foodies super chefs will take on a ’Ninjas Love Noodles’ theme, encouraging kids to make simple food which they can take away and enjoy. And for those little thrill seekers, a funfair, sand art, craft tents, face painting and family friendly areas.
