ED joint director Rajeshwar Singh quits, set to join BJP, contest polls

LUCKNOW: Enforcement Directorate joint director Rajeshwar Singh took voluntary retirement Monday to join politics.

An officer of UP Police, Singh has been on deputation to the ED for the past 14 years. After his application for the VRS was accepted on Monday, he made the anouncement on Twitter, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and ED director SK Mishra.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath have taken a resolve to make India a world power, and a vishwa guru. I shall also be a participant in this mission and contribute with conviction in the process of nation building,” he said in an indication about his impending plunge into politics.

“Twenty-four years of continuous public service has made dynamism a habit in my life. I have also tried to imbibe a rational humane sensitivity, assimilating it with my sensibilities and integrating it to my charter of duty. Our principles, values, ideals are what makes us human despite being part of the establishment. Fighting with the system, I have realised that these principles are also sentinels, with these ideals and values now I want to venture into the domain of politics and do something new and good every day,” the former cop said. He is likely to be fielded from Sultanpur or one of the seats of the state capital, say BJP sources.
