Matt Lucas was “forced” to switch sides from presenter to contestant on The Great Celebrity Bake Off, when one of the 20 stars pulled out at the last minute.
The comic, who normally co-hosts alongside Noel Fielding, pulled on his apron after the pair tossed a coin to see who had to join in - and Matt lost.
Yesterday he said he was left with little choice, despite having next to no baking skills.
He explained: “I was forced to bake by my bosses at the last minute when one of the bakers became unavailable. I can’t tell you how happy I was that my humiliation was caught on camera.”
Little Britain star Matt, 47, replaced Sandi Toksvig on the show alongside Noel in 2020.
He revealed at the time that his cake-making skills were extremely limited.
“I once tried to bake a cake, but already I started tampering with the recipe and the cake, I mean, talk about soggy bottom.
“This cake was just, if you had to give it a name, you’d call it wet egg cake.
“I mean, that’s all it was. It was inedible. I’m happy to eat the cakes, but I’m not a great baker.”
In the episode, which airs this spring as part of Channel 4 ’s annual charity fund-raiser for Stand Up to Cancer, Matt and Noel make a gag about a “mystery guest” before flipping the coin.
The reason why the unknown celebrity fails to show is not revealed.
The famous faces who do turn up include Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse, Olympian Sir Mo Farah, comic Ruby Wax and pop star Ellie Goulding.
Also joining the fun are Taskmaster’s Alex Horne, broadcasters Annie Mac and Clara Amfo, actors Ben Miller and Blake Harrison, comedians Ed Gamble, Yung Filly and Mawaan Rizwan, TV presenters Emma Willis, Laura Whitmore and Sophie Morgan, singer-songwriter Example, choirmaster Gareth Malone and actresses Katherine Kelly and Tracy-Ann Oberman.
Each of the five episodes features four famous bakers, judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
No one is asked to leave but at the end of each show one contestant is named Star Baker.
