Amir Khan had 'gun pointed in his face' as thieves demanded £72,000 watch

Amir Khan says he had a gun 'pointed in his face' after two men stopped him and took his watch.

The former boxing champion told his followers on twitter that he was confronted by two men while walking in East London with his wife, Faryal Makhdoom, on Monday night (April 19). Making his way through the Leyton area, the men stopped, one of them armed and demanding his watch which cost £72,000.

Kahn, 35, noted his wife was several steps behind him at the time of the incident and they were both safe. Tweeting about the incident to his 2.1 million followers, he reassured fans there was nothing to worry about.

He said: "Just had my watch taken off me at gun point in East London, Leyton. I crossed the road with Faryal, luckily she was few steps behind me. Two men ran to me, he asked for my watch whilst having a gun pointed in my face. The main thing is we’re both safe."

2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anthony Fowler responded to Khan's tweet, saying: "Glad your ok mate". The Metropolitan Police confirmed an investigation has already been launched into the attack.

A statement read: "Police were called at 9.15pm on Monday, April 18 to High Road, Leyton. A man aged in his 30s is alleged to have been approached by two males who threatened him with a firearm before stealing his watch and fleeing. There were no reports of any shots fired or any injuries.

"Police responded and conducted an area search. At this very early stage there have been no arrests. An investigation has begun and police are following a number of enquiries."
