For decades, a 46-year-old man talked in his sleep so often that his wife was waking up several times a night. Other providers had already tried cognitive behavioral therapy and medication. What seemed to help, according to a published case report, was hypnotherapy that included a single sound his wife could use in the dark: "Shhhh."
The report, published April 13, 2026, in the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Sleep, describes how the man's nightly talking dropped sharply over six hypnotherapy sessions. By the last one, his wife said he had woken her only once in the previous two weeks.
