The weight loss is real. The timeline they quote you is not.
Most bariatric surgery brochures in India show a patient who has lost 30 to 40 kilograms in six months. What they don't show is that the rate of loss slows sharply after month three, and that the final number depends heavily on which procedure you had, your starting weight, and whether you develop complications. A 2022 study published in the Indian Journal of Surgery tracking 1,200 sleeve gastrectomy patients across tertiary hospitals in Mumbai and Delhi found that only 58 percent achieved the expected excess weight loss at the one-year mark. The rest lost significantly less, often because post-operative diet compliance dropped after the initial recovery window. The surgery changes your stomach. It does not change your appetite hormones permanently, and it does not override the social and psychological drivers of eating that got most patients to the operating table in the first place.
