DAYTON, Ohio — A rash of local mail thefts coincides with a reported 17-fold nationwide increase in checks stolen from the U.S. mail being posted for sale online — as officials representing postal service police say they are hamstrung in arresting perpetrators, a Dayton Daily News investigation found.

In Florida, state-level candidates and PACs have spent $266,166 from their campaign accounts on services from the United States Postal Service in the 2022 election cycle so far. USPS received 0.07 percent of all reported expenditures. 

In North Carolina, state-level candidates and PACs have spent $275,000 from their campaign accounts on services from the United States Postal Service in the 2022 election cycle so far. USPS received 0.48 percent of all $57.3 million in reported expenditures. 

In Michigan, state-level candidates and PACs have spent $516,804 from their campaign accounts on services from the United States Postal Service in the 2022 election cycle so far. USPS received 0.31 percent of all $164.1 million in reported expenditures. 

Postal delivery vans are a perfect use case for EVs, and it should be a no-brainer for the US Postal Service to replace its fleet of delivery vehicles with EVs.
