After finishing runner-up in 2023, Mirko Bortolotti went one better by delivering his maiden DTM crown with a consistent campaign. There was only one win, a well-judged wet-dry affair at the Red Bull Ring, but nobody eclipsed the SSR Lamborghini Huracan driver’s tally of seven podiums.

SSR Performance may be fighting for the DTM title this year with Mirko Bortolotti, but the future of the factory-supported Lamborghini team hangs in the balance.

QJMotor, the Chinese powerhouse behind a large number of bikes under its own name and collabs with major players like Harley-Davidson, has landed in the US.

SSR Performance’s Bortolotti was unchallenged in the hour-long opening contest at the former German Grand Prix venue, resisting two safety cars periods and a brief rain shower to take the chequered flag by 1.1s over Winward Mercedes’ Lucas Auer. Championship leader Thomas Preining completed the podium in third.

Having scored his maiden podium since his switch to Audi on Saturday, Rast carried that form into qualifying for the second leg of the DTM’s blue riband event, setting a rapid time of 48.622s in Group A.
