I’ll come right out and say it. I hate Jeff Bezos. I hate Amazon. Very brave stuff, I know. 

Modern trucks are hellaciously expensive. So expensive that folks are swapping their work trucks for utility side-by-sides in droves, as trucks have become too expensive to fix, too expensive to maintain, and too expensive to beat the ever-living-hell out of. You just can't do truck things with modern trucks, unfortunately. 

Slate dropped a bombshell this week when it revealed both itself and its first model: a utilitarian electric pickup truck expected to cost under $20,000 after factoring in the federal tax credit for plug-in cars. 

(And that could be a good thing).

The Slate Truck is a totally different kind of EV that values affordability more than anything else, which could make for an appealing option at $20,000 starting.

Slate revealed its barebones inexpensive electric truck to the masses last night. It's an interesting vehicle, capable of converting to a small five-seat SUV for hauling people instead of cargo. Judging by the comments shared during our debut livestream, we suspect many prospective Slate customers are largely interested in cargo.
