Preining got a chance to sample Porsche’s prototype racer at the Bahrain International Circuit earlier this month, having been nominated by the German manufacturer for the World Endurance Championship rookie test following his title-winning DTM campaign with the 911 GT3.

Preining didn’t put a foot wrong all day, claiming pole position in his Manthey EMA Porsche before leading every lap outside of the pitstop cycle to bag a maximum haul of 28 points.

HRT driver Stolz enjoyed a perfect rolling start from pole position, as his rivals tiptoed through the tight, technical opening sequence of corners.

In the opening race at the popular German street venue, Winward Mercedes driver Schumacher was battling with Luca Engstler for 19th position when he made contact with the Audi driver at the apex of Turn 1, sending the 23-year immediately into retirement.

Manthey EMA driver Preining claimed his first victory of the 2023 season in Sunday’s second race at the Norisring after passing polesitter Rast for the lead with a “hard and opportunistic move” on lap 44 of 74.

Starting from pole position, Preining put in a faultless drive in his Porsche 911 GT3 R, surviving two safety car restarts to lead into the final 10 minutes of the race.
