Texas Democrats are hopeful Biden can run a competitive race in the historically red state — especially if the GOP nominee is Donald Trump again.

DALLAS — Harlan Crow, the Dallas real estate magnate whose friendship with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has drawn national attention, doesn’t believe they’ve done anything wrong.

The dearth of competitive down-ballot races could contrast with the last few election cycles in Texas, when multiple congressional seats and state legislative seats drew significant national investment.

Cuellar, a Texas Democrat, spoke with NPR about a Biden administration proposal to limit asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border. He says the number of arriving migrants is overwhelming local officials.

U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales said in an interview with the Washington Examiner that his fellow Republicans benefit politically from a sustained border crisis. The attack indirectly alluded to U.S. Rep. Chip Roy’s contentious border security bill.

Immigrant advocates say migrants have issues with an expanded CBP One app meant to address unlawful border crossings.

One year later, there have been no arrests or charges filed related to the case. Cuellar maintains that he was never the target of the investigation and will ultimately be cleared of wrongdoing.

Riding the success of his historic congressional session last year where he helped pass the first gun safety bill signed into law in a generation, Cornyn is hopeful that his ability to strike deals across the aisle will help Congress achieve another elusive legislative goal: an immigration deal.

"He is shifting to where a lot of us have been wanting him to go," one Democrat told Axios.
