New York City Mayor Eric Adams is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming border czar Tom Homan next week to discuss the upcoming administration’s immigration plans. Adams, who has been vocal in his criticism of the Biden administration regarding his city’s migrant crisis, had expressed his intention to meet with Homan and had initiated contact to arrange the meeting.
Adams expressed his anticipation for the meeting, stating, 'I am looking forward to sitting down and speaking with the border czar next week. I believe we have a meeting on the 12th. I want to hear the actual plan, how we’re going to operationalize this plan,' as reported by sources.
Homan has been actively engaging with state officials across the country, recently meeting with officials in Arizona and Texas to address the situation along the US southern border. He has also been in discussions with lawmakers, including a conversation with Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar, who represents communities along the Texas-Mexico border.
Cuellar, emphasizing his extensive experience living on the border, mentioned his conversation with Homan this week. He acknowledged their differing perspectives but highlighted areas of agreement, noting, 'He knows that I’ve been doing this longer than a lot of people. I don’t visit the border. I live on the border.' Cuellar also referenced Homan's prior service in the Obama administration.
Cuellar, a House Democrat from a swing district, was among those who criticized the party’s handling of immigration issues in the 2024 election. The upcoming meeting between Mayor Adams and Tom Homan signifies a significant step in addressing immigration concerns and shaping future policies related to border security.
