Indian‑American advocacy group the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) has criticised a public meeting in Texas after a US comedian mocked Hindu beliefs, saying the event was turned into a “circus of hatred” and allowed anti‑Hindu remarks without interruption.

During a recent Plano City Council meeting, comedian Alex Stein caused a stir by mocking Hindu customs, specifically cow veneration along with the traditional uses of cow dung and urine. Clad in Indian garb, his satirical commentary prompted several Indian-American attendees to walk out in protest.

“We cannot help but wonder if the league and teams preclude more reasonable and flexible rules regarding charter travel in 2023 in order to seek leverage on this issue at the bargaining table,” the WNBPA’s statement read in part.

The league and the players association weighed in on the “inappropriate and unfortunate” incident on Saturday.
