Zendaya 's mum has shared a cryptic message about 'clickbait' and 'sensationalised headlines' following rumours that Tom Holland and Zendaya have got engaged.
Claire Stoermer took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday to warn fans about clickbait in the media, seemingly shutting down theories that her daughter is soon to be hitched.
"Clickbait typically refers to the practice of writing sensationalized or misleading headlines in order to attract clicks on a piece of content.
"It often relies on exaggerating claims or leaving out key information in order to encourage traffic. The term is generally used in a dismissive sense," a quote shared by Claire read.
Her post comes after fans went wild for the Hollywood couple, speculating they had taken the next step in their relationship.
Tom and Zendaya started trending on the social media platform Pop Hive earlier this week, as one wrote: "Tom Holland and Zendaya are reportedly engaged," attaching a photo of the adorable couple in their now-viral post.
Tom is gonna be Mr. Zendaya now," replied one excited fan.
"This is great news. So happy for them," replied another to the entirely unconfirmed news. "Wow such amazing news," another added.
The Mirror has approached representatives of Zendaya and Tom for comment.
The pair, who met on set of Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2016, are said to have grown even closer recently, with one source claiming they are getting 'permanent'.
"They’re both in settling-down mode and are absolutely planning for a real future together," the insider told Us Weekly of Tom, who portrayed Peter Parker, and Zendaya, who played Michelle Jones, in recent Spiderman movies.
Zendaya previously said she found the public’s fascination with her relationship with Holland "quite strange and weird and confusing and invasive."
"The equal sentiment [we both share] is just that when you really love and care about somebody, some moments or things, you wish were your own," she told GQ in November 2021.
She added: "I think loving someone is a sacred thing and a special thing and something that you want to deal with and go through and experience and enjoy amongst the two people that love each other."
The potential positive news comes after Tom announced he was taking a break from social media for the sake of his mental health.
