The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will send a "disease detective" to Pennsylvania through its Epi-Aid program after the state asked for federal help with its measles outbreak, an official with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said Wednesday. Federal health officials have also provided nearly $4 million in one-time funding to support the state's measles response through most of 2027, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The help comes as the outbreak keeps growing. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 1,222 confirmed measles cases across 42 counties as of Oct. 14, including 86 new cases since Oct. 9. Of those patients, 225 have been hospitalized, or close to one in five.
