India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has claimed that during the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League, one of his teammates got drunk and hung him off a 15th floor balcony.
Chahal, who has made more than 100 appearances for India in white-ball cricket, was part of the Mumbai Indians squad at the time. Speaking in a video on his current IPL team Rajasthan Royals' YouTube channel, Chahal explained the incident in detail.
"This dates back to 2013 when I was with Mumbai Indians, we had a match in Bangalore," he said. "There was a get together after that.
"So there was a player who was very drunk, I won't say his name. He was very drunk, he was looking for me for a long time and he just called me, and he took me outside and he hung me from the balcony.
"My hands were around him like this. Had I lost my grip… I was on the 15th floor. Suddenly, many people who were there came and they controlled the situation.
"I kind of fainted, they gave me water. Then I realised how responsible we need to be when we go anywhere.
"So this was one incident where I felt I made a narrow escape. Had there been the slightest of mistakes, I would have fallen down. I was about to go, and I came back."
Chahal made just one appearance for Mumbai that year against Kolkata Knight Riders. Following the 2013 season, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL auction and remained with the franchise for eight years.
In the recent auction, Chahal was picked up by Rajasthan and he has made an impressive start to the season, taking seven wickets in his first three games. Rajsthan are currently third in the table, having won two matches so far.
