Tributes have been paid to a "beautiful grandson" who died after falling from a mountain in Eryri, also known as Snowdonia. Jack Carne, 23, was climbing Y Gribin in the Glyderau on Saturday, February 4, when a rock he was holding onto broke away from the mountain causing him to fall a "considerable distance".
A team of 12 rescuers including the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation searched for Mr Carne's body, which was found in the darkness shortly after 9pm. The recovery continued through to Sunday lunchtime with the help of the coastguard rescue helicopter.
Mr Carne was ascending the Gribin ridge with two friends when the tragedy happened. Tributes have now been paid with friends describing him as a "true gentleman" and the "nicest lad you'll ever meet". A fundraiser in his memory has also raised more than £9,000 less than a week after it was set up.
