YO! launches a Gyoza Barm to mark new opening

The ‘Gyoza Barm’ has launched near Bolton giving a new twist on the classic North West delicacy of the ‘pasty barm’. The product has been launched to mark the opening of the new YO! Middlebrook restaurant and sees a classic Bolton barm accompanied by three chicken gyozas, katsu curry sauce, spring onions and pickled ginger.

Available for a limited time only, the ‘gyoza barm’ is designed to celebrate the fusion of Japanese and Boltonian cuisines. The new YO! at Middlebrook Retail and Leisure Park will be home to the third longest conveyor belt in the UK, serving mouthwatering Japanese foods.

The ‘pasty barm’ is said to have been invented by schoolboys in the 1950s and has remained a delicacy in Bolton ever since. It’s typically made up of pasty with a filling of your choice – whether that’s meat and gravy or cheese and onion.

YO!’s new ‘gyoza barm’ also has a vegetarian option, featuring spinach dumplings filled with cabbage, carrots, edamame & more veggies. Locals will be able to taste the new barm delicacy during the first week of opening. YO! is open to making the gyoza barm a new menu item should there be the demand to do so.

Bread rolls have been given many different names in Britain over the years, from barms to cobs, bin lids to buns, but YO! believe that, whatever you decide to call it, the gyoza barm is not one to miss.

Locals had their say on the new creation with reactions largely positive, reaction included “I’d ‘av that again, it’s a solid 10 but then so is a pasty barm” and “as barms go, this is on point”.

Adam Townsley, Head of Food & Development at YO! said: “We’re hugely excited to create a true Bolton & Japan fusion in the form of the ‘Gyoza Barm’ and would love to see any intrigued locals to come down and give it a try, embrace the two culinary traditions and get a taste of a Japanese twist on your classic barm. This is such an exciting time for YO! and we’re so pleased to be launching a new restaurant in Middlebrook, what better way to celebrate than by launching an exclusive menu item which encapsulates both Japan and Bolton.”

The menu is packed full of delicious Japanese cuisine including as a range of sushi, hot street food, curries and more. There is also a wide selection to meet all dietary requirements, with a third of their menu being vegetarian or vegan.
