XL provides a solution for bulky goods

Mr Ng, left, and Mr Ty announce the launch of Kerry XL.

Leading parcel carrier Kerry Express Thailand (KEX) has partnered with Thailand's retail giant Central Retail Corporation (CRC) to introduce Kerry XL -- an express pick-up and delivery service for large items.

CRC and its business partners will be among the first clients to utilise the Kerry XL service. KEX said that its new express service is set to address the everyday needs of Thais, reducing issues such as long wait times, high delivery costs and untraceable delivery.

Alex Ng, chief executive of KEX, said the firm acknowledges the popularity of online shopping among Thai clients, especially their high interest in oversize items available online such as fitness equipment, furniture, white goods and construction materials.

"Having observed that among sellers on social media and e-commerce marketplaces, there is still a multitude of demand for large parcel delivery services for us to tap into. We are thus confident that the new Kerry XL service will cater to the needs of both buyers and sellers," Mr Ng said.

Mr Ng added that the partnership between KEX and CRC would create a unique and impactful synergy between the two brands.

"Being in the express delivery industry for over 16 years, KEX knows that the partnership with CRC, number one in retail, means combined expertise to give consumers the ultimate user experience."

Kerry XL users will also have access to additional value-added services such as points for the loyalty programme, cash-on-delivery (COD) services, insurance on packages, an assembly service (for example, for furniture), an installation service (for example, for air conditioners), and an exchange service.

Ty Chirathivat, deputy chief finance officer of CRC, called the partnership with KEX "strategic", adding that it would help increase CRC's growth.

"We saw the need to expand our capacity and enhance our logistics system to satisfy the needs of our ever-prospering portfolio of partners and clients, especially for large shipments," he said.

"This strategic partnership with Kerry is regarded as such a major milestone for us as it provides consumers with unprecedented convenience in the shipping of large and bulky items with reliable services enabled by Kerry's hub-and-spoke model, which is in line with our strategy to enhance our omni-channel platform."
