X Factor winner and Love Island star to join charity football match at Ashton Gate Stadium

Actor and singer Shayne Ward has been unveiled as the latest celebrity to take part in a charity football match next month to raise ‘life-saving’ funds for children fighting a rare form of bone cancer.

Shayne Ward, who is best known for winning the X Factor in 2005 and playing Aidan Connor in Coronation Street, will be amongst the famous faces to grace Bristol City FC’s Ashton Gate Stadium on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Latest announcements have also revealed that actor Max Bowden, who plays Ben Mitchell in EastEnders, Love Island star Toby Aromolaran, and Max Mills from the X Factor duo Max and Harvey will be taking part.

Sellebrity Soccer organisers are encouraging the community to offer their support to the campaign, Chloë’s Fight with Ewing’s, which was set up by a local family who are raising vital funds for research into Ewing sarcoma after their daughter was diagnosed with the rare type of cancer.

Lee Latchford Evans from the 90s pop group Steps, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara and TOWIE stars Dan Osborne and James Argent are also on the team sheet. Love Island contestants Luke Trotman, Nas Majeed, Jake Cornish and Brad McCelland will also be taking to the pitch alongside EastEnders stars Jake Wood, who played Max Branning, and Matt Lapinskas, otherwise known as Anthony Moon.

Also looking to show off their football skills are reality stars Calum Best and Joe Sealey, the sons of two Manchester United legends, George Best and Les Sealey. Chloë’s parents, Gary and Joanne, said: “Thank you to Ashton Gate, Bristol City and Sellebrity Soccer for making this match happen.

“We are really hoping to see lots of people there having a great time making memories, something we and Chloë would always say is so important. We hope lots of people will come and have some fun while raising awareness and funds for Chloë’s Fight with Ewing’s. Ewing sarcoma is a rare aggressive form of bone and soft tissue cancer.”

Other stars set to play the field include Gogglebox favourite Tom Malone, TV chef Dean Edwards and former Bristol City footballers Lee Trundle, Scott Murray and Louis Carey. All the celebrities are subject to work commitments.

Chloë was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in May 2018 just as she was about to sit her first GCSE. Three years later, Chloë’ is still having chemotherapy and will need frequent scans and check-ups for the rest of her life as the tumour can’t be removed.

Chloë and her family are now on a mission to raise money for research into Ewing sarcoma to help improve treatment options for other young people with the same condition. The game has been organised by Sellebrity Soccer, which was launched in 2012 to help charities raise funds by arranging all-star football matches across the UK.

Sellebrity Soccer’s Co-Founder Kevin Cooper said: “We are very excited to bring Sellebrity Soccer to Ashton Gate Stadium for the third year and bring back that much needed feelgood factor and a great family day out.

“We always have amazing support from the club and fans for the matches so once again, get behind what will be an amazing day in May 2022.”

Kick-off is at 3pm on Sunday, May 15, but the turnstiles will open at 1:30pm.

Standard tickets cost £15 alongside an additional booking fee or people can upgrade to a VIP package for £40 per person, where they will gain entry to a VIP lounge and have the chance to meet some of the players after the game.
