A few weeks before 62 year old Richard "Rick" Slayman of Weymouth who was battling end-stage kidney disease when underwent surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) where doctors transplanted a genetically-edited pig kidney into his body. The surgery took over four hours and was done on March 16. With this, Slayman became the world's first living recipient of a genetically-edited pig kidney transplant.
He was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. Two weeks after the surgery he is no longer on dialysis, the hospital has said.
