World Cup 2026: Algeria and Austria advance after dramatic draw, knock Iran out of group stage

Austria fought back to salvage a dramatic 3-3 draw with Algeria in their final World Cup Group J match on Saturday, with two stoppage-time goals securing both teams a place in the Round of 32 and eliminating Iran. Argentina topped the group, while Austria finished second and Algeria advanced among the best third-placed teams.

Austria and Algeria played to a thrilling 3-3 draw Saturday night in what amounted to a win-win result in their World Cup group-stage finale, allowing both to advance to the knockout round while eliminating Iran from the tournament.
