A woman whose water leak had gone undetected for months was shocked to recently receive a water bill for nearly £16k. Claire Fitzpatrick said that everything initially seemed fine upon moving into her house on Sycamore Close in Bridgend early last year.
But, by the summer, the amount she owed to Welsh Water had "suddenly and unexplainably shot up" into four figures. The 47-year-old cosmetic product developer added that when she went to check her meter - which is located in the street outside her house - the numbers were "spinning at 100 miles an hour."
"I first realised something was wrong when when I was alerted by my bank about my monthly direct debit having gone up. So I rang Welsh Water and was the told my outstanding balance was £3,823.27 - I couldn't believe it.
