The hot summer weather has led to hot tub sales soaring - but adding one to your garden can have a downside, as one woman found out.
The shopper’s excitement at her new purchase quickly waned after setting up the hot tub had quickly led to an argument with her neighbour. Taking to Mumsnet to ask for help, she explained how the tub had caused some friction.
Posting on the Am I Being Unreasonable forum, the woman explained she had bought a hot tub that her family started using from 8.45am the next morning. However, their neighbour soon came knocking to complain about the noise.

“She thinks it’s an absolute joke,” the hot tub owner said of her neighbour. “It’s too noisy, she can barely hear herself think apparently.”
She went on to say that “of course” they wouldn’t turn the bubbles on at night, and would “probably only use it a few times a week”. But she was still keen to hear the advice of fellow Mumsnet users.
She asked whether she was in the wrong over the situation - and the response was divided in the replies section. Some agreed that hot tubs were too noisy, branding the poster “inconsiderate and selfish” for using one.
“I’m afraid I’m with your neighbour on this one - unless you live in the middle of nowhere, hot tubs are a bad idea,” one person said. “They’re noisy and very antisocial.”
A few criticised the use of hot tubs because of their own experiences, which left them sympathising with the neighbour in the story. “My neighbour has one and it's the bane of my life,” someone commented.
“It's noisy, they all shout over the noise and their dogs hate it so bark constantly,” they added. “Sitting out in the garden if they're using it is a pain.”
Some also said that 8.45am was “too early” to be making noise in the garden. But others disagreed, arguing that the family was well within their rights to make noise in their own garden.
“Unless it is up against a joint fence, just suggest she get some headphones,” one Mumsnet user wrote.
“Putting up with noise from neighbours is part and parcel of living near other people,” another said. “She needs to get over it, or move to a detached house in the middle of nowhere.”
Finally, some suggested a compromise to ease tensions between the neighbours. “Talk to her about whether there are particular times of day she’s finding it intrusive and then agree to avoid those times, or cut back the amount of time you’re in it,” one person said.
