Explained: Why depreciating rupee hasn't boosted India's exports

NEW DELHI: As global trade faces headwinds amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, merchandise exports from India hit a 9-month low at $33.92 billion in August.

During the same period, imports jumped 37.3% from August 2021 levels to $61.9 billion. This implies that India's trade deficit shot up 138.8% year-on-year to $27.98 billion.
