The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has confirmed a measles case in an adult resident of its Northwest Region who recently traveled within the United States, and it is asking anyone who was at a Harrisonburg business on two days last week to check their immunity and watch for symptoms. The exposure site is Fair Hill Precision, 4445 Lewis Byrd Road, on Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, according to the VDH announcement of the confirmed Northwest Region case issued October 17.
Today begins the period when exposed people are most likely to get sick. VDH says illness would most likely appear between October 19 and November 3. Anyone who spent time at the site during those hours and is not immune should contact a health care provider or the local health department now, not after symptoms start.
