For single mothers like Patience and fathers like Dilton, the stakes could not have been higher.
They had separately been referred to a residential family assessment centre run by St Michael’s Fellowship in south London, where Patience moved in with her newborn and Dilton arrived with his partner and their three-year-old daughter. For 12 weeks, each family would be closely monitored and given parenting training and at the end of the process, they would either leave with their children or their children would be taken into care.
