The Question Arrives Before You Do
You are still opening wedding gifts when it starts. An aunt at the reception, leaning in close, voice dropped to a conspiratorial murmur: "So, good news soon?" Your mother-in-law, framing it as hope: "We are all waiting." A cousin, laughing as she says it, which is supposed to make it not count. The question wears so many faces that by the time you are a month into your marriage, you have already learned to brace for it in every room you enter.
