While Donald Trump was busy threatening NATO allies with terrible repercussions in all caps if they didn’t join the operation against Iran, the Middle Eastern country was slowly and methodically choking the Strait of Hormuz, preparing to undermine the one thing on which the entire U.S. global hegemony hangs: the petrodollar.
The Trump administration will be remembered for many mistakes, domestically and otherwise, but perhaps the most catastrophic one will be hammering the final nail in the coffin of American exceptionalism.
